World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.

Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item upgrader mod has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can use as PvP is restricted at a lower level. The average item level can be found in the character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. The level of the item can be used to compare items when examining a vendor's inventory.

On PC, you are able to view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are various theories about how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory states that the item level is calculated using an equation that determines the worth of an item's stats really are. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's actual item level.

It's not the only factor that affects the ilvl of an item. The location of where the item was dropped may alter its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher value.

Item Stats

Item stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stats of a base weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn increased by the player's skill.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded several times at higher costs.

Another way to change the stats of an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat in the same range, unless it's a unique item, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly useful in early game runs because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade item chance which increases with each item level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased from the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an item upgrader kit upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases that chance by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the item upgrader; mozillabd.science, CORE client config.
