World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item upgrading. Based on the type of upgrade it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, dependent on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the sheer number of perks that must be changed in order to upgrade an item.

Item level is a popular measurement of power and is visible on all item tooltips. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. The average item level is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the levels of the item. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's able to deal. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done using the item's level.

On PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full item description, including its level. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the item level is determined. One theory suggests that the level of an item upgrader kit is determined by a formula that calculates how valuable the stats of an item really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values and that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item, for example, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item upgrader mod, however every Best item upgrader is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is especially useful for early game runs, because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level of the item and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned with the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck, or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be bought in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25 percent, and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
